d6 COMMUNICATOR
This is the last Circular that will be printed and sent home. From now on information will be sent via the d6 Communicator. If you would like information on how to download the d6 ask the class teacher for a copy of instructions. If you can’t download it, pop into the office for help.

ADMISSIONS 2018 FOR GR RR and GR R ONLY
We would like to bring to your attention, the fact that nowadays there are far more people applying for placement at City Centre Schools than there are vacancies. We therefore urge you to apply timeously for any younger daughters whom you are intending to send to Longmarket Girls’ School in 2018. Applications for 2018 are available at the office from 7th March 2017. Applications will close on Thursday 21st April at 12:00 noon. PLEASE NOTE: Our present Grade R and RR parents, you don’t need to make a formal application. Your child will automatically be accepted, IF SHE IS READY,into Grade R and or Grade 1, AND FEES ARE UP TO DATE. N.B. Equally important is that our present Gr 7 parents apply for high schools. This needs to be done right away to ensure a placement for your daughter. Remember to apply to more than one school.

CAKE SALE – Grade 1 and 7
We will hold the first cake sale on Wednesday 1st March. Our Gr 1 and Grade 7 girls will provide the cakes or R40. All girls can bring their R5 or R10 in their money purse around their neck to purchase cake or popcorn.

SENIOR PRIMARY GALA
On Friday 10th March from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm, we will be having our Senior Primary Inter-House Gala to which all parents are invited. All Grade 4 to 7 girls, please come to school on Friday in your swimming costumes, P.E. Clothes and white takkies. If you are unable to participate in the gala send a doctor’s certificate.

GRADE 2 AND 3 GALAS
These will take place on Friday 17thMarch. First will be the Grade 2 Gala from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, then the Gr 3 Gala from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon. All parents are invited to attend.

REPORTS AND BOOK VIEWING
Grade RR to Grade 7 Parents will receive their daughters first term report at the end of this term and are invited to Book Viewing on Wednesday 29th March 2017 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. There will be parking available on the field for Gr 1 – 3 parents. The Zulu teachers will be available.

TOILETRIES
Please can the Grade 2 and Grade 5 girls bring a 9 or 10 pack of toilet rolls (Twin Saver or similar) to school as well as all the Grade 1’s that have not yet done so.

PLASTIC BREAD TAGS
This year we will continue to collect the plastic tags from any bread packet to go towards the purchasing of wheelchairs. We will be helping the physically challenged children at St. Christopher’s School. The Polystyrene Packing Council (PPC) donates one wheelchair to St. Christopher’s School for every 250 kg of bread tags that are collected. In addition to this, Sasko, Goldpack and CE Mobility have pledged to further boost this project by agreeing to donate a further 3 wheelchairs for every 1 they get from PPC.

TABS ON TINS
Please remember to collect tabs off tins to help pay for training guide dogs.

STAFF NEWS
Mrs King is leaving at the end of February. We thank her for the tremendous contribution that she has made to LGS. We wish her all the best for her new position at Varsity College.

Outstanding school fees should be as per the table.

GOVERNING BODY BI-ELECTIONS
This will be held on Wednesday 8th March at 5:15 pm in the school hall. A quorum isn’t required. We have parents who have indicated that they are prepared to serve on our Governing Body, so voting should not take long.

RECYCLING
Parents, we are committed to saving our world by recycling. We are working with Wildlands Conservation Trust. Our school collects newspapers, magazines, cardboard, plastic, white paper and mixed paper. Please rinse food and drink containers. Items need to be taken out of packets at school and separated into respective bins. We receive a rebate for our recycling.

TRIPS AND EXCURSIONS
The different Grades go on different trips or excursions. These are very beneficial and enjoyable but not compulsory. The trips are not funded out of school fees. They can be paid off in instalments as long as they are fully paid before the trip takes place. If paying by EFT please don’t just put your school fee reference but add the word TRIP or the money will just go to school fees.

READING
Parents please read to or with your girls. Teach them to love books and to look after them. Reading fluently, with expression and comprehension is vitally important for their education.

ALLERGIES OR MEDICAL CONDITIONS
Please inform the office, class teachers and coaches if your daughter is allergic to bees or is asthmatic. If she needs a pump with her at school please send one.

END OF FIRST TERM
School will close on Thursday 30th March at 12:30 pm for JP classes and 1:00 pm for SP classes. There will be Aftercare as normal.

START OF SECOND TERM
Second Term will begin on Tuesday 18th April.
