Choir evening, books 2 you, swim-a-thon and more

CORDWALLES CHOIR EVENING
Our Longmarket school choir participated in the Cordwalles Choir Evening on Tuesday evening. They did us proud with their singing and behaviour. It was a very enjoyable evening.

BOOKS 2 YOU
To promote reading and literacy in our school, Books 2 You is hosting a Book Fair at our school on Monday 26th May from 10:00 am to 3:30 pm and Tuesday 27th May from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm. Each class will be allocated a time to browse through the books at the fair. You are also invited to visit the fair in our school auditorium and to purchase books for your children and/or to donate to the library. Should you donate a book to our library, your child’s name will be written in the front of the book and she will be the first to take the book out the library once it has been processed. If you are unable to pop into the fair yourself, you may send money in an envelope so that your child can purchase a book. The average price of a book is R35-00. In appreciation for hosting the book fair, our school receives a percentage of the total sales, back in books. This is a wonderful way to add new titles to our library at no extra cost! Your support is greatly appreciated.

TOILETRIES
Please can the Grade 7 girls bring a 9 or 10 pack of toilet rolls (Twin Saver or similar) to school.

GRADE 1 TO 7 SWIM-A-THON
Thank you to all parents who have returned the swim-a-thon form and money collected. We have raised the amount of R28 454-40.

FEED THE BABIES
Thank you to all our girls who raised money for hungry babies. Please hand in all forms and money by
Friday 16th May.

CIVVIES DAY
On Friday 23 May we will be having our next LGS civvies day. For those girls who wish to participate they can pay R5 and wear suitable/sensible civvies.

GRADE 4 TO 7 EXAMS
A reminder that the SP classes write exams at the end of this term. Grade 6 and 7 will start on Monday 26th May and Grade 4 and 5 on Friday 6th June. Parents please motivate and help your daughter to study for her exams and to learn hard for her learning subjects. With the new CAPS curriculum the pass rates have risen for all subjects. The pass rate for English is now 50% and for all other subjects it is 40%. The Grade 6 and 7 Parents Evening will take place on Thursday 26th June and the Grade 4 and 5 on Thursday 24th July. Please note that it is compulsory to pass both English and Maths.

SCHOOL UNIFORM
Parents if you wish, you may remove the elastic at the bottom of the legs of the tracksuit pants. Please parents when buying our new school blouses don’t buy one that is far too big for your daughter as it then looks very ‘sloppy’ on her.

SPELLING BEE
The Grade 2 and 3 Spelling Bee final will be held on the Monday 19th at 9:15 am. The Grades 4 to 7 final will be held on Tuesday 20th at 9:15 am. The winners of the Grade 4 to 7 finals will represent LGS at the MCS Inter Schools Spelling Bee later this year.

Yours sincerely
